Walking
For some serious walkers these may be more like gentle strolls. But, this will give you an idea of what is available on your doorstep. walks is limited to a maximum of 10 milesor so. If you want to do more serious walking, particularly in the north of the island, look out for some of the advertised trips etc.
- To/from La Caletta: this is the one that everyone does and needs no further explanation except to say that detours around the mountain adjacent to Los Cristianos can both provide a short cut and end up making a circular walk.
- Adeje town to La Caleta: catch the bus to Adeje town. You can either then walk the San Sebastian track or alternatively walk to Las Torres (a commercial area) and then down to La Caleta.
- El Medano to Golf de Sur: catch the 471 to El Medano and then walk back along the coast ending either at Los Abrigos or Golf de Sur. Only do this walk if the prevailing northerly wind is blowing: if the airplanes are coming in off the sea it’s ok!
- Los Abrigos to Costa del Silencio: catch a 483 to Los Abrigos. Walk along the coast path passing by Golf de Sur and Amarillo Golf – as you approach the mountain ahead of you keep it to your right or you may have to double back if the tide is in.
- Las Chafiras to Costa del Silencio: take a 483 to Las Chafiras. Walk down the road towards Golf del Sur. Keep right at the bottom and eventually you will come to the end of the golf course – after which you will see a track to your right which goes up over the hill and down into Costa del Silencio
- Guaza mountain: this is the mountain in front of you if you turn left at the bottom of the hill. Only walk this early in the morning before the sun is up. At the top keep on the track and keep left at the disused building that you will come to. From there you will eventually find walking close to banana plantation and come out close to Guaza. From there you can either catch a bus back (the 467) or turn right and go to Palm Mar and then if you are feeling very energetic walk the coast path to Las Galettas. If you turn right at the top of the mountain you may be able to find a way down direct to Palm Mar but it is easy to get lost up there!
- Roque de Conde: this is a tough walk more suitable to mountain goats and is signposted from the square in the town of Arona
- Arona to Valle San Lorenzo: from the same square at the top of the town, take a right turn. Keep on along what becomes a country road passing a church and later a sculpture garden on your right. Keep going and you will after a sharp descent come out in Valle San Lorenzo. From there you can get a bus back or walk another road to Cabo Blanco.
- Los Gigantes to Playa San Juan: from Los Gigantes walk along the promenade through Puerto Santiago. After this there is a new coastal path which nearly all the way to Alcala. You can catch a return bus from there or carry on to Playa San Juan and returning from there.
- San Miguel to Las Chafiras: catch a 416 to San Miguel. Get off just after the College and take the road parallel to the main road which then leads on to a well marked track. At some places there is some loose screed and so a stick and good tread in your shoes is needed. Take water and a picnic!
